Health and Testing at HoneyDream.
At HoneyDream Cattery, the health and well-being of our cats and kittens are our highest priority. We believe that every family deserves the peace of mind that comes from knowing their future kitten has been carefully screened and raised with love, responsibility, and science-based care.
Veterinary Testing
Each of our breeding cats is tested through a licensed veterinary clinic for major feline diseases to ensure the health of our cattery and the safety of future litters.
FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus): Negative
FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus): Negative
Heartworm Antigen: Negative
These results mean our cats are clear of these dangerous infectious diseases, reducing risks for their kittens and ensuring they grow up in a safe environment.
Advanced Genetic Screening
At HoneyDream, we use DNA testing through leading laboratories to ensure the long-term health and well-being of our cats and kittens. These advanced tests screen for dozens of hereditary conditions that can affect British Shorthairs and other breeds.
Our genetic testing covers:
Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD): a serious kidney disorder found in some cat lines.
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA): a degenerative eye disease that can cause blindness.
Screening for various forms of mucopolysaccharidosis as well as cystinuria
Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKDef): an inherited disorder affecting red blood cells.
Blood Type & Variants: important for safe breeding.
Carrier & At-Risk Genes: over 40 other genetic conditions.
Why this matters:
By completing these tests on every breeding cat, we help reduce the risk of hereditary conditions and make informed decisions that help maintain healthy, diverse, and responsibly managed bloodlines.
